2009 - 2010 Apparel Order

Just like last year, we will be doing apparel orders over the next two weeks. All of this is optional!!!!! If you or your athlete does not want to order, then you are not obligated to do so. The girls like to have a lot of clothes with soccer on them so this is a way for them to have more gear - it is optional though!!!!! The last day to place orders is November 13th. The order forms are available for pickup in my room. The front of the shirts and hoodies is below.

Fundraising Time HIts

From around October 1st to October 15th, we are doing a fundraiser for the soccer program. We are selling candy and hoping to raise money so that we may buy new warmups and pass down the current ones to the junior varsity team. Fundraising is a necessary evil that helps to buy equipment as well as allows us to continue to provide socks (free of charge), meals, team shirts, etc. for our student athletes. I appreciate your support in our endeavor and as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to call (973-1594) or email (sparks@usd259.net)

Also, we have a team meeting tomorrow during intervention to discuss the fundraiser as well as talk about our team gear ordering options.

Thanks for all your support!

End of Summer Session

It was a great time getting together with the team this summer. We were able to see some new faces and work out with some experienced players. After two 12-6 seasons, I think we are ready to try and outdo ourselves. It will be a tough road, with another tough schedule. I trust that our ladies are up to the challenge and I know the coaching staff will work hard to put ourselves in positions to win every game. I will keep you posted on happenings throughout the year. Thanks for all your support.

Also, thank you to Beth Arpin for donating a wonderful Lady Falcon Soccer banner. It looks wonderful and will be on display as we play this year and in the future.

Thanks,
Coach Parks

No Pick Up Soccer Today!

Due to the wetness over the last couple of days we will give the field a rest today. We will resume again on Sunday at 6:00 pm. We will probably go to around 7:15 or 7:30. For those that have come and made an effort to get better, we coaches really appreciate it!

Take care,
Coach Parks

P.S. - Go to the gym and work out! :)

First Summer Workout

Well, we had our first workout this summer on Thursday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. It went well with 14 total players. We had some new faces along with 2 former players. At first, we started with a few drills and then played a small field game before going into a weight circuit.

We will go again on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. See you then.
Thanks,
Coach Parks

First Summer Workout - Thursday March 25th

The first summer workout is scheduled for Thursday March 25th at 10:00 am. We will go to about 12:00. We will be doing pick up games as well as some cardio/weight training. If you are dropping an athlete off we will have the 53rd street gate open. If the weather has been bad, please do not pull in as the mud will be too severe.

All athletes should have cleats, shin guards, running shoes, and water.

If you have any questions, please let me know. This is for returning players and new incoming players as well!

Thanks,
Coach Parks

Coach Parks' Barbeque

After a lot of going back and forth between the 13th and 14th for the end-of-the-year awards barbeque, it has been set for Sunday, June 14th at 2:00. It will be at Coach Parks' house(use map quest on the address at the bottom for directions). Food will be provided and we will hand out certificates, letters, awards, and discuss summer pick up games and weight room times. Look forward to seeing you all there. I understand it being the summer, some people won't be able to make it, but we hope we can get as many C/JV/Varsity players here. See you then.

End of Season Items

What a great season. Unfortunately it ended the same way it did in 2008. A loss to Goddard in the Regional Championship game cost us a trip to state. We will miss our six seniors(Megan, Ashley, Sofie, Peggy, Christina, and Erika!). A couple of items I would like to update you on below:

1. Banquet - The banquet will take place at my house in the form of a bar-b-que. It will either be June 13th or 14th...not 100% sure yet. It is here where we will present awards and certificates and eat with the players one last time. It is only a player bar-b-que. I don't think I have enough space for 45 athletes and then more(sorry!).

2. Uniforms - For the most part, all uniforms are in. I was thrilled that they were turned in in such a timely fashion.

3. All City Awards:
Offense - 1st Team: Selby Polley
Offense - 2nd Team: Allison Totty
Honorable Mention: Lamya Scott and Kinzie McCarthy

Defense - 1st Team: Rebekah Ramstack
Honorable Mention: Sarah Mohesky and Megan Kassick

Goalie - Honorable Mention: Ashley Simon

Congratulations Ladies!

4. Thank you to John Loomis for his time as C-Team coach. He is stepping down to pursue his true passion - coaching golf. He will be the new Head Coach for both the men and women. Good luck three-fifths!

5. Thank you to all who helped with lunches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is awesome for the kids and for me too! A personal thank you to Debbie for taking care of all the concession issues and being a wonderful representative for our program with the booster club!

6. Pick up games and weights will be part of our summer conditioning program. We will keep the girls posted on when these will begin! We hope to see them all in the weight room!

Have a great summer!

Thoughts - May 6, 2009

This week(tomorrow) we approach our 14th game of the season. Dodge City comes to town for a big set of games(JV and Varsity). Next week, we finish with West(Senior Night) and then the season finale with Bishop Carroll at Carroll. It has been a long journey and hopefully longer still as we go into the playoffs. I sometimes find myself in a weird situation. I came to Heights almost two years ago with the hopes of turning the program around. We have made unbelievable strides and each year have accomplished different things. I find my own competitive desires so strong that I stress about things that are out of my control. I wish I wouldn't do that, but those of you who know me personally, know that that is just part of my personality. I look forward to what these ladies are going to accomplish in the next month and hope that I can control my own competitive nature.

Manhattan

This Friday, the varsity and junior varsity teams will be traveling to Manhattan for games. The busses will leave Heights at 12:30. We are unsure of the exact time for the return that night. We will have the athletes call with cell phones when we are about 45 minutes out.

On a blog note, the blog site has been giving me some fits so I have struggled to get things posted. I want to list the remaining varsity and junior varsity games below:

4/28 Northwest(H) 4:15/5:30
5/1 Manhattan(A) 4:30/6:00
5/4 Derby(H) 4:15/5:30
5/7 Dodge City(H) 4:15/5:30
5/12 West(H) - Senior Night 4:15/5:30
5/14 Bishop Carroll(A) 4:15/5:30

Thanks!

In the two years that I have been at Heights, one of the most important things to the soccer programs are the parents. It is at this time of year that I feel so tired and stressed. Between teaching a full day and then trying to find ways to outwit other coaches, it can be a tiring process. But tonight, rather than have to worry about game day meals and things like that(parents have done a tremendous job helping the girls with that!), I can focus on what will be the biggest game of the year for us thus far. So, for everything that you parents do and for the fact that you believe in what our program is doing, I say: THANK YOU! You make my job easier.

Titan Classic

Well, the 2009 Titan Classic is over. We walked away with a record of 1-2. Obviously not what we wanted. Hopefully a better showing next year. I think we played well in two of the games and lost a little edge in one of them. Now the focus shifts to East who we play tomorrow. The game is at East. Both JV and Varsity will play with the JV going first at 4:00.

Heights 5 Southeast 1

On March 26th, the Lady Falcons started their season with an impressive win against city league foe Southeast. It was a terrible weather day, but the ladies were able to play well enough for a win. One positive about the game is that all five goals were scored by different players - Monica McCarthy, Selby Polley, Molly Crouch, Allison Totty, and Kinzie McCarthy. Our next game is on Tuesday, March 31st at 3:30 pm. We will be playing in the Titan Classic at South High.
It was also a great week for the JV and C teams as well. The JV team beat the Southeast JV 1-0 on a goal from Tori LaForce. The C team started the wins off on Wednesday with a 3-1 win over Southeast.
Also, the previous week had the Lady Falcons featured on Channel 12 as this past weeks "Rising Star". I have attached a link below if you have yet to see it. What a great compliment to our program - congrats ladies.

Good First Week - Some Odds and Ends

Well, the first week of the 2009 season is done. What a great week for Falcon soccer, we had around 60 girls try out for the team! A twenty person jump from last year. A couple of things that are important from last week and for the upcoming weeks:

1. All athletes must have shinguards at all times. Starting Monday, we will have to sit athletes who do not have appropriate equipment (we are beginning more contact drills and need to be careful).

2. Blue Cards need to be turned in ASAP. These cards are extremely important if any athlete is seriously hurt. It allows us coaches to have contact information quickly and it allows us to know where to take your daughter if she needs quick medical care.

3. Parent Meeting - Trying for the later part of the week. I originally had the meeting planned for Tuesday, March 10th at 6:00 pm. I asked my wife at home how that day sounded and she didn't say a word, only gave me an interesting glare. She reminded me that it wouldn't be the best idea to have it on her birthday - I am such a romantic. Suffice it to say, I needed to change the date. Sorry, more on Monday for sure about the date of the parent meeting.

4. First Game is March 26th. This is a game for both varsity and junior varsity teams. It will be at Southeast. The following week we will begin the Titan Classic against Salina Central on Tuesday (March 31st at 3:30 pm). The Titan Classic is a tournament at South High and we will play on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday of that week.

5. Spring Break practices - Spring Break for students begins next Friday. We will practice only three days over Spring Break. The days are Thursday(March 19th), Friday(March 20th), and Saturday(March 21st). The times are to be determined.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me. The easiest way is via email: sparks@usd259.net or by calling my school room directly at 973-1594.

2008 Roster
