Heights 5 Southeast 1

On March 26th, the Lady Falcons started their season with an impressive win against city league foe Southeast. It was a terrible weather day, but the ladies were able to play well enough for a win. One positive about the game is that all five goals were scored by different players - Monica McCarthy, Selby Polley, Molly Crouch, Allison Totty, and Kinzie McCarthy. Our next game is on Tuesday, March 31st at 3:30 pm. We will be playing in the Titan Classic at South High.
It was also a great week for the JV and C teams as well. The JV team beat the Southeast JV 1-0 on a goal from Tori LaForce. The C team started the wins off on Wednesday with a 3-1 win over Southeast.
Also, the previous week had the Lady Falcons featured on Channel 12 as this past weeks "Rising Star". I have attached a link below if you have yet to see it. What a great compliment to our program - congrats ladies.

This Thursday (March 12th) will be our parent meeting. It will take place in D103. A classroom near the gym. We will have people in the commons to assist you on where to go. The meeting will start at 6:00 pm. It shouldn't take more than 30-40 minutes. This is a great time to meet the coaches and for us to get to know you.

Good First Week - Some Odds and Ends

Well, the first week of the 2009 season is done. What a great week for Falcon soccer, we had around 60 girls try out for the team! A twenty person jump from last year. A couple of things that are important from last week and for the upcoming weeks:

1. All athletes must have shinguards at all times. Starting Monday, we will have to sit athletes who do not have appropriate equipment (we are beginning more contact drills and need to be careful).

2. Blue Cards need to be turned in ASAP. These cards are extremely important if any athlete is seriously hurt. It allows us coaches to have contact information quickly and it allows us to know where to take your daughter if she needs quick medical care.

3. Parent Meeting - Trying for the later part of the week. I originally had the meeting planned for Tuesday, March 10th at 6:00 pm. I asked my wife at home how that day sounded and she didn't say a word, only gave me an interesting glare. She reminded me that it wouldn't be the best idea to have it on her birthday - I am such a romantic. Suffice it to say, I needed to change the date. Sorry, more on Monday for sure about the date of the parent meeting.

4. First Game is March 26th. This is a game for both varsity and junior varsity teams. It will be at Southeast. The following week we will begin the Titan Classic against Salina Central on Tuesday (March 31st at 3:30 pm). The Titan Classic is a tournament at South High and we will play on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday of that week.

5. Spring Break practices - Spring Break for students begins next Friday. We will practice only three days over Spring Break. The days are Thursday(March 19th), Friday(March 20th), and Saturday(March 21st). The times are to be determined.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me. The easiest way is via email: sparks@usd259.net or by calling my school room directly at 973-1594.
